Asanbekov Sarman


Art historian. Honored Worker of Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic. Born on August 8, 1935, in the collective farm "Communism" in the Talas district of Talas region. In 1958, he graduated from the Faculty of Philology of Kyrgyz State University, and in 1966 he completed postgraduate studies at the Institute of Philosophy and Law of the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz SSR, specializing in visual arts, developing the topic "Features of the formation and development of professional visual arts in Kyrgyzstan."

He worked as a research associate at the Kyrgyz State Museum of Fine Arts (1958-1961), head of the educational department (1961-1963), then director of the Frunze Art School (1968-1975), head of the art department of the weekly "Kyrgyzstan Madeniyati" (1968), and head of the art editorial board of the Kyrgyz Soviet Encyclopedia (1975-1977). Since 1977, he has worked as the head of the art literature editorial board at the "Kyrgyzstan" publishing house.

Since 1980, he has been a member of the Union of Artists and a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR.

In his books, articles, reports, and speeches, he addresses relevant issues of contemporary professional art in the republic, such as the traditions of folk creativity in contemporary art, the professionalism of the artist, his connection with Kyrgyz culture, and the relationship between Kyrgyz culture and Russian art.
