Local residents oppose the construction of a solar power plant

At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, deputy Gulsunkan Junushalieva presented a complaint from the residents of the village of Ortok in the Kochkor district.
According to her, local residents are protesting against the construction of a solar power plant: “They claim that they are stopping the work, but the contractors continue. This leads to conflict situations. People also complain that significant areas of pasture are being allocated for the project,” the deputy reported.

Energy Minister Talaybek Ibraev noted that negotiations were held with the local population before the construction began, and they agreed to the transfer of land. However, after the start of the work, residents began to express dissatisfaction. In this regard, a decision was made to relocate the construction to another area allocated by the local authorities.
Adylbek Kasymaliev emphasized that Kyrgyzstan's electricity needs amount to 19 billion kilowatt-hours, while the country produces just over 14 billion. To meet the shortfall, up to 4.5 billion kilowatt-hours have to be imported from Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Russia.
He urged the residents of the village and the entire country to support energy initiatives and noted that it is wrong to agree to projects first and then oppose their implementation.
