In recent years, Kyrgyzstan has faced an increase in the trade of illegal and counterfeit seeds, leading to significant crop losses and the spread of diseases among plants. This situation creates economic problems for farmers and threatens agricultural security, which has become an important part of national food security. This information was presented by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic.
In response to these challenges, the ministry is developing a new regulatory legal act that will require farmers, agricultural enterprises, and cooperatives to use only certified seed and planting material when growing agricultural crops.
The Ministry of Agriculture strongly urges agricultural producers to pay attention to the following recommendations:
• purchase seeds and seedlings exclusively from certified suppliers;
• request documents from sellers confirming quality and origin;
• maintain an archive of certificates for each batch of planting material.
Furthermore, the ministry emphasizes that farmers who are unable to confirm the quality and certification of seeds will lose their right to state benefits and support measures.
It is important to note that the government currently offers:
preferential loans and land plots; comprehensive support to cooperatives.
