Bakyt Torobaev, acting Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, called on agrarians to actively implement drip and sprinkler irrigation. This was reported by the Ministry of Water Resources and Agriculture.

According to him, climate change, reduced precipitation, and melting glaciers require more efficient use of water resources. Particularly concerning is the drop in water levels in the Issyk-Kul region.

To conserve water resources, the government is conducting extensive measures, including the construction of reservoirs and the reconstruction of canals. A project is also actively being implemented to build a plant that will produce concrete linings for canals, aimed at reducing water losses.

Modern irrigation systems are currently applied on 16,000 hectares of agricultural land. The government plans to increase this figure by 30-40 thousand hectares annually, with the goal of covering 200 thousand hectares by 2030.

The minister added that farmers can take advantage of various funding sources, including state and local funds, bank loans, as well as World Bank projects. A new preferential lending mechanism will be launched in 2026.

“These technologies not only save water but also contribute to increased yields and product quality, which in turn leads to higher incomes for farmers,” noted Bakyt Torobaev.
