In Kyrgyzstan, in 2026, the implementation of drip and sprinkler irrigation systems will take place on an area of 5,270 hectares using funds from the republican budget. This was reported by the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry.
According to the information, in 2024 and 2025, water-saving technologies covered 2,369.5 hectares. Of this area, 641.5 hectares were occupied by drip irrigation, while 1,728 hectares were under sprinkler irrigation.
These activities are being carried out in accordance with the ministry's order dated October 16, 2025, regarding the implementation of water-saving technologies. The document outlines measures for the installation of modern irrigation systems on state-owned lands and defines areas for their temporary use.
Currently, about 2,000 hectares of land have been earmarked in the country, and tenders have already been conducted for the installation of irrigation systems on 1,500 hectares. Project documentation has also been prepared. Active outreach work is being conducted with farmers about the advantages of water-saving technologies. Two seminars have been held at the republican level to raise awareness.
After the completion of the tender procedures, the necessary equipment for the installation of irrigation systems is planned to be acquired. It is expected that the installation will be completed before the start of the 2026 growing season.
