Grocery basket of Bishkek as of January 17. What has increased in price the most
Over the past week, there has been an increase in prices for meat, rice, tomatoes, onions, carrots, cabbage, and pears in Bishkek. At the same time, some products, such as bread, cucumbers, peppers, apples, sugar, milk, and eggs, have become cheaper.

Thus, over the week, the cost of the basic grocery set decreased by 1 som and amounted to 6,722 soms.

Every week we visit the same supermarket to track prices for the same set of products. The list below includes the items we have included in our basket and the reasons for their selection.
Prices for products can vary depending on the place of purchase: supermarkets often have promotions that allow you to buy goods at lower prices.
Since the beginning of our observation in late October 2018, the cost of the grocery basket has increased by 3,452 soms. Since the beginning of this year, it has decreased by 1 som; however, compared to the same period in 2025, prices have risen by 710 soms.
Currently, the cheapest product in our set is bread. The influence of fresh vegetables and fruits on the overall cost of the basket is quite significant, as they are the ones that determine price changes.

Throughout 2025, the cost of the grocery basket increased by 686 soms. The lowest cost was recorded on October 18 — 5,791 soms, and the highest was on December 6, amounting to 6,927 soms.

In 2009, the government of Kyrgyzstan approved nutritional norms for citizens, according to which each person should consume 9 types of products per month.

These norms include: 9 kg of bread, 5 kg of meat, 8.2 kg of potatoes, 9 kg of vegetables, 10 kg of fruits and berries, 2 kg of sugar, 17 liters of milk, 1 liter of vegetable oil, 4 eggs, 100 grams of fish and fish products, as well as 200 grams of tea.

Based on the minimum norms established by the state, we analyzed the cost of the consumer basket for a family of four, based on prices in one of the supermarkets in Bishkek. Recently, many city residents prefer to shop in large stores.

Of course, the calculations of product consumption are approximate and based on the approved state norms. Considering individual preferences, not all families consume the same products in the same quantities. For example, some people do not eat meat, while others do not like sugar. Therefore, our basket should not be perceived as an absolute truth; it is rather a social experiment from 24.kg.

Baked goods include both bread and pasta and cereals. Our family is considered average, so we prefer apples and bananas among fruits, and onions, carrots, peppers, cabbage, cucumbers, and tomatoes among vegetables. We avoid excesses and choose only the essentials.
