Donald Trump, the President of the United States, announced an increase in tariffs on imports from South Korea to 25%. He made this announcement in his post on the Truth Social platform.

In his message, Trump accused the South Korean leadership of violating the terms of the trade agreement signed last year.

According to him, the new tariffs, which are increasing from 15%, will apply to various goods, including cars, lumber, and pharmaceuticals.

In response, the South Korean authorities noted that they have not yet received official notification of the tariff increase and expressed their readiness for urgent negotiations with the U.S. to resolve the situation.

The trade agreement between the two countries was signed in October 2025 and involved South Korean investments of $350 billion in the U.S. economy, part of which was to be directed towards shipbuilding.

Currently, this document is under consideration by the National Assembly of South Korea since November 26, and local media suggest that it may be approved in February of next year.
