The First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers explained the reasons for the authorities' intervention in the restaurant business
At a recent meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Dastan Bekeshev asked why the government decided to abolish the service charge in restaurants and cafes.
“I understand your good initiative, but you have created such problems that now they cannot be solved. Why intervene? I don’t understand. Now the restaurant business is suffering from your actions. Can you cancel this decision?” — Bekeshev addressed him.
In response, the First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet, Daniyar Amangeldiev, explained that public catering establishments had no legal grounds to automatically include the service charge in the prices of dishes.
Amangeldiev noted that these measures were taken to protect consumer rights.
“According to the law, the service charge must be voluntary. Including it in the total amount without the client's consent is unlawful. We simply brought the situation in line with the law,” — he added.
In addition, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet reported that work is currently underway across all service sectors where there is a sharp rise in prices. These actions are being implemented in conjunction with antimonopoly authorities.
