According to the Financial Times, the Kyrgyz Republic is prepared to go to court if the European Union decides to impose sanctions against Bishkek due to suspicions of re-exporting goods to Russia. This decision is related to a proposal from the European Commission to ban the supply of certain goods that could be used for military purposes.

EU documents mention dual-use products, including machinery and electronics, which could be involved in the production of weapons and drones. European authorities believe that some of these products may be re-exported to Russia, circumventing existing sanctions.

Daniyar Amangeldiev, the First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, noted in an interview with FT that Kyrgyzstan is doing everything possible to comply with Western sanctions. He also expressed dissatisfaction that the European Union did not specify the concrete actions that Bishkek should take to confirm compliance with the restrictions.

"This decision could negatively impact our image. If it is made, we are ready to challenge it," Amangeldiev added.

According to him, Kyrgyzstan has confirmations of the measures taken, but the European side has not proposed effective mechanisms for meeting the requirements.

The First Deputy Chairman of the Government also acknowledged that there are cases of goods being transited to Russia but emphasized that the authorities intend to curb such practices. He noted that the increase in imports from Europe is due to large contracts, including the construction of hydropower plants in the country.

If sanctions are imposed, it will be the first case of the EU applying trade measures against Kyrgyzstan amid suspicions of circumventing anti-Russian sanctions.
