Representatives of the village administration reported in a comment to Turmush that these goats are known for their down and are highly valued among farmers. The demand for their wool and down remains high both in the country and abroad.
Experts suggest that with successful adaptation to the climate of Jeti-Oguz, each goat could produce between 450 to 500 grams of quality down.
Currently, 200 goats have already been transferred to the balance of the municipal enterprise of the Jeti-Oguz rural district, and a special route has been developed for their maintenance:
- in summer — Ak-Tash pasture;
- in winter — high mountain valleys of Ak-Shyyrak and the area of ridges.
In the future, local authorities plan not only to increase the herd size but also to organize the processing of valuable raw materials in the country, as well as the export of finished products. The success of the kidding campaign highlights the viability of the project and the good acclimatization of the animals.
In mid-August 2025, Turmush reported that livestock farming is actively developing in the region, focusing on improving the quality of livestock. The head of the village administration, Urmat Dokoev, noted that in 2021, a feeding site for livestock was created in the territory of the former Lipenka rural district. Initial works were funded with 5 million soms from sponsors, and a barn for 100 heads was built from the budget.
Initially, horses were being fed, but now the farm is raising beef cattle under the guidance of Ermek Chekirov, who has employed four more people. According to the Jeti-Oguz village administration, this farm is self-sufficient, and the profit is used for the development of social infrastructure.
Currently, the farm has 100 calves that are fed for at least 6 months, after which the herd is renewed.
Urmat Dokoev also spoke about the breeding of down goats of the "Don" breed. In March 2025, thanks to the initiative of the administration, 200 kids were delivered from the "Tegirmen-Bashy" farm in the Batken region. This year, the first down has already been collected, and next year a yield of 500 grams per goat is expected. The kids have adapted well to local conditions, and negotiations are currently underway with Kazakhstan to purchase another 200 heads.
If the project receives the necessary funding, an increase in the herd size is planned. Despite the small volume of down collected this year, its price reaches 3800 soms per kilogram. The head of the village administration emphasized that the main goal is to expand the farm, transition from quantity to quality, and create additional jobs.
The Don breed of goats is characterized by thick and soft down, good early maturity, and rapid weight gain. These goats do not require a special diet and tolerate dry conditions well. The slaughter yield is 55-60%, and newborn kids weigh 2-3 kg, reaching 15-17 kg by three months. The meat has pronounced taste qualities.
Although this breed is less common as a source of milk, the lactation period lasts about 4 months, during which 150-170 liters of milk can be obtained with a fat content of about 4.3% and a protein content ranging from 2.3 to 3.4%.
The length of down is an important characteristic, and for Don goats, it reaches 9-13 cm, while in other breeds, this length is shorter. The greatest growth of down occurs in autumn, while molting happens in February. The smaller the difference in down length on different parts of the animal's body, the higher its technological properties.
