Earlier, Turmush reported on an attack by an unknown predator on sheep in June 2025 at the Chym-Tam pasture in the same area, resulting in the deaths of over 300 head of livestock. This attack also drew the attention of local authorities.

The deceased animals were disposed of according to established sanitary norms.

The presidential representative office noted that information confirming that it was a leopard has not yet been verified and called for caution. We are working with herders in Chym-Tam to enhance safety levels," local authorities added.

Turmush previously reported that a predator attacked sheep in the mountains of the Jeti-Oguz district, causing concern among local herders.

According to preliminary information, at Chym-Tam in the upper reaches of the village of Barskoon, on the night of June 10 to 11, 2025, a predator attacked a sheepfold with small livestock. Herder Maksat Amazbaev reported that between 04:00 and 05:00, he discovered that the leopard had entered the pen. As a result of the attack, 332 head of sheep and goats belonging to him and his neighbor Taalai Junushov were affected. "There were bite marks on the necks of the animals. We suspect it was a leopard," Amazbaev noted.

The Chym-Tam pasture is located about 150 km from Barskoon.

Twice after this, particularly on June 13, the predator attacked a cow with a calf again, confirming the serious problems faced by herders. "Since the snow leopard is protected by law, we do not know how to protect our livestock," they express their concerns.

Local residents also stated that such attacks could recur and called for assistance. They are convinced that attention from authorities and environmental organizations is needed to address this issue.

According to herders, the predator bit off a large part of the carcass of two sheep, confirming the difficult situation in the region. As a result, 332 head of small livestock were disposed of in a special pit.

Herders are in a difficult position and demand attention from local authorities to address this problem.
