With the closure of the largest livestock market in Tokmok, located in the Chuy region, residents of the villages of Vinogradnoye and Chym-Korgon have begun active efforts to create a new market in their area.

According to the latest data, the construction of a new livestock market has begun in the village of Chym-Korgon in the Kemin district on a plot of land measuring 11 hectares.

Previously, Turmush reported on an unplanned livestock market in the village of Vinogradnoye in the Chuy district, where work is currently underway to improve the territory and lay gravel.

The head of the Chym-Korgon village council, Almazbek Dubanaev, noted that out of the 11 hectares allocated for the new market, 5 hectares are designated specifically for it, while the remaining 6 hectares will accommodate a cafeteria, shops, and other commercial facilities.

“Construction work on the new livestock market has already begun and is being funded from the district development fund. Local youth are also actively participating in this work,” he added.

Residents of Chym-Korgon emphasize that both markets are being built as temporary facilities as part of a pilot project.

“There is an opinion that the market which proves to be more convenient for people will continue to operate on a permanent basis. The second, less popular one, will be closed. Therefore, residents of the Chuy district are making efforts to ensure that the market remains with them, while the Kemin residents are also trying not to fall behind. This creates healthy competition between the two districts,” the sources report.

In December 2025, Turmush reported that the livestock market in Tokmok will be relocated to a new area, and modern multifunctional facilities are planned to be built on its current site. This was stated by the mayor of the city, Altynbek Ergeshov, during a meeting with traders.

The livestock market in Tokmok is considered one of the largest in northern Kyrgyzstan and plays an important role in livestock trade in the Chuy region.

According to the mayor, the existing market does not meet sanitary and veterinary standards and does not comply with urban planning norms. Its proximity to the highway and residential areas also poses risks to the safety and health of residents.

In this regard, it was decided to relocate the market to a nearby location, but away from the roadway and residential areas, which will ensure safety and comfort for both sellers and buyers.

The mayor emphasized that the territory of the current market has great potential for the city's development, and in the future, there are plans to attract investors for new projects.

The project includes the construction of multifunctional buildings and the creation of a business space focused on technology and creative industries.

The municipality stated that all necessary conditions will be created at the new livestock market: modern infrastructure and compliance with sanitary and veterinary standards.

Representatives of the Chuy district state administration also reported that the new market, which will be relocated from Tokmok, is planned to be situated in the eastern part of the village of Vinogradnoye in the Chuy district. However, exact information about the area and the timeline for the start of work is currently unavailable, as the project is in the planning stage.

Traders engaged in livestock sales noted that the Tokmok market had a significant advantage: its proximity to food and spontaneous markets. “If the new market is located near the road and meets all the standards, we will get used to it. But the Tokmok market had the convenience of being able to buy and sell in one place,” they shared.

Turmush previously reported that the decision to close the private livestock market in Tokmok will take effect on January 1, 2026. Inspections revealed that the market operated on a commercial basis, charging fees for the placement of animals.

At the same time, insufficient funds were invested in the development and maintenance of the necessary infrastructure.

The closure of the market is due to violations of sanitary and veterinary standards, as well as non-compliance with safety regulations.

Despite warnings, the owners did not take action to rectify the violations.

Livestock trading in this area is being discontinued. Farmers and buyers are advised to use other markets in the region and remote platforms for sales.
