Starting from January 1, 2026, the private livestock market in Tokmok will be closed, as reported by the press service of the city administration, according to Turmush.

The decision to close was made by authorized state bodies based on the current legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic.

According to the information, the market operated on a commercial basis, which involved charging fees for the placement and sale of agricultural animals. However, the owners and tenants did not make the necessary investments to improve and maintain the engineering, sanitary, and veterinary infrastructure.

The closure is due to multiple violations related to veterinary, sanitary, and environmental standards, as well as non-compliance with safety and infrastructure requirements, as stated in the official announcement.

During inspections, the following problems were identified:

• inadequate conditions for the keeping and sale of agricultural animals;

• non-compliance with veterinary standards, which creates a risk of spreading infectious diseases;

• poor sanitary condition of the area;

• lack of basic sanitary and hygienic facilities in public places, including toilets;

• absence of drainage and water diversion systems, leading to pollution;

• violations in the placement of trading facilities, contrary to urban planning norms;

• lack of measures to ensure road safety in the market area.

“Despite repeated warnings and directives from regulatory authorities, the market owners did not take steps to eliminate the identified violations and improve the infrastructure,” the city administration added.

The closure of the livestock market is aimed at protecting public health and preventing epizootic risks. The market will remain closed until all sanitary, veterinary, and infrastructure requirements are met.

Trade in agricultural animals at this market is being halted. During its suspension, farmers, sellers, and buyers are encouraged to refer to other operating markets in the region and utilize online platforms and messengers for the sale of livestock. The sale of animals will be organized at specialized sites that meet established standards.

The timeline for the resumption of the market's operations will be announced later. The city administration apologizes for the temporary inconveniences and expresses gratitude for understanding,” the press service added.
