Roads play a key role in the movement of people and goods, providing connectivity between regions and contributing to economic development. They improve access to services, support businesses, and develop tourism, which in turn enhances the quality of life for the local population.
For many years of Kyrgyzstan's independence, construction work in the road infrastructure sector left much to be desired. Each year, the length of new and repaired roads did not exceed 200-300 kilometers.
However, after 2020, the situation changed dramatically. Kyrgyzstan has seen a sharp increase in the pace of road construction, which became particularly noticeable from 2021 when the government began actively implementing large projects in this area.
The dynamics of road construction are as follows:
2021 — 175 km,
2022 — 488 km,
2023 — 673 km,
2024 — 802 km,
2025 — a record: 1545 km.
As a result, over the past five years, more than 3000 kilometers of roads have been built and repaired, of which over 2400 kilometers have asphalt surfaces. This indicates rapid progress and large-scale development of the road sector after 2020.

The main factors behind this growth have been a significant increase in funding from both the national budget and attracting investments. Investors have actively invested in the development of road infrastructure. Additionally, large strategic projects are currently being implemented, such as North-South and alternative routes, as well as the reconstruction of international transport corridors. Strategic projects have dominated road construction in recent years.
Today, it can be confidently stated that the road sector has become one of the key and rapidly developing sectors in the country's economy.
President Sadyr Japarov emphasized that quality roads contribute to the activation of communication, growth in trade and tourism, and improve the standard of living. "Every new or repaired road is not just infrastructure, but a means of strengthening connections between people and an important element for the future development of our state," he noted.

The President also noted that special attention is being paid to the road sector and significant support is being provided. Since 2021, more than 102 billion soms have been allocated for the development of transport and road construction.
From 2022 to 2024, 750 units of road machinery, including dump trucks, excavators, and bulldozers, were purchased from the national budget. This has allowed for the acceleration of road work and reduced dependence on third-party contractors.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications presented information on the work done in 2025 and plans for 2026.
According to the department's data, the following projects were implemented in 2025:
