Jamalidin Mirzaev, a 50-year-old resident of the village of Gulbaar in the Aravan district of the Osh region, creates amazing clay products.

He was born in 1975 in the Andijan region of Uzbekistan. At the age of 14, he moved to Osh to continue his education and has since settled there permanently. He currently has two sons and two daughters.

“In 1995, I began studying ceramics at the creative center 'Golden Valley' at Osh State University and completed my studies in 1998. In 2000, I enrolled in this university again for professional development and started working there. I graduated in 2003. Since 2006, I have worked as an art teacher at school No. 47 named after Ergash Kebekbaev, and from 2013 to 2023, I worked at the Aravan district children's creativity center. Since 2023, I have held the position of director of the school named after E. Kebekbaev,” Mirzaev shared.

He became a ceramics master under the guidance of his older brother, who studied in Leningrad and founded a creative center where Jamalidin learned.

The prices for his products range from 100 to 15,000 soms, with the main material being clay from Uzgen.

“It takes 1-2 days to create small souvenirs, while larger and more detailed works take over a week. It is important for the clay to dry well,” he explained.

According to the master, his talent has brought him significant achievements:

“I have had the opportunity to participate in numerous exhibitions. I represented the Aravan district at an international master class in Kokand, where masters from 83 countries gathered. My works were also showcased at the Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan.”

Jamalidin also recalled amusing moments from his work at school:

“Working with children always leads to interesting situations. Once, I assigned them to draw money, and one student glued a real 20-som note to a piece of paper. I said to him, ‘Oh, great, I’ll take it to the administration.’ To which he replied, ‘No, give it back.’

“Children's imagination is endless. In a modeling lesson, I taught the children to make animals from clay, and one student, not waiting for the clay to dry, covered his creation with putty and made a polar bear — it was a real novelty for me.”
