During the scientific and practical conference "Financial Independence and Economic Security of the Kyrgyz Republic: Lessons from K.K. Nanaev," dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the birth of Kemelbek Nanaev, the first chairman of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic, the chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and head of the presidential administration Adylbek Kasymaiev spoke.
As reported by the press service of the administration, in his report, he noted that Kemelbek Nanaev had a significant impact on the development of the financial and economic system of independent Kyrgyzstan.
In 1993, under his leadership, the national currency - the som - was successfully introduced, which became not only a monetary unit but also an important symbol of the country's economic sovereignty. He was also one of the founders of the National Bank and played a key role in forming an independent monetary policy, which was critically important for the young state. From 1994 to 1996, when he served as Minister of Finance, important reforms were implemented: the State Treasury was established, a public debt management system was developed, a market for government securities was formed, and the first Tax Code of Kyrgyzstan was adopted.
Kasymaiev emphasized that the strategic ideas and initiatives of Kemelbek Nanaev laid a solid foundation for financial stability, promoted transparency in the budget process, and shaped the modern financial architecture of public administration.
The head of the Cabinet of Ministers noted that he knew Kemelbek Nanaev as an outstanding reformer and statesman, but also recognized him as a talented scholar and wise educator, who possessed a high culture and civic responsibility.
In conclusion of his speech, he added that the name of Kemelbek Nanaev will forever remain in history as one of the founders of the financial and economic system of independent Kyrgyzstan.
