As part of the traditional "Word of the Year" campaign, experts from the Pushkin Institute of the Russian Language in Moscow have determined that "victory" has become the most significant word of 2025. This information is reported by the official website of the Institute.
This choice holds special significance, as this year the country celebrates the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The rector of the Institute, Nikita Gusev, noted that for Russian society, the word "victory" is not just a lexical unit, but an important historical and cultural concept that unites different generations. It symbolizes the outstanding feat of the people, their resilience and heroism, which is reflected in works of art and songs that resonate in every family.
The selection of the word took place in three stages: first, options were proposed by the expert council, then an automated analysis of the frequency of word usage in media and search engines was conducted, and finally, an open vote was held on the Institute's online platforms.
The list for voting included both proper names and relevant terms from the socio-political and technological spheres.
