On December 4, the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, made a statement to the press following his meeting with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif, in Islamabad.

During his speech, the president noted that he was pleased with the warm welcome and hospitality, adding that his visit was the first in the last 20 years for a Kyrgyz president to Pakistan, as well as the first state visit since his election in January 2021.

“We discussed a wide range of issues concerning Kyrgyz-Pakistani cooperation and its future prospects,” he said.

Japarov emphasized the importance of strengthening ties in the areas of trade, economy, investment, as well as in science and education.

The president also highlighted that one of the main directions of bilateral cooperation is to unlock the transport and transit potential of Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan.

He also noted that the "CASA-1000" project has strategic significance for energy integration between Central and South Asia and will bring significant benefits to both countries.

Moreover, the president focused on the prospects in education and science, mentioning that more than 12,000 Pakistani students are studying in Kyrgyzstan, and the republic is open to new joint initiatives and the development of scientific cooperation.

“In the field of security, we reaffirmed our commitment to the joint fight against terrorism, extremism, and transnational crime,” he noted.

“We decided to enhance coordination between our competent authorities to ensure peace and stability in the region,” Japarov added.

The president also invited Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to be an honorary guest at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, which will take place in the fall of 2026 in Bishkek, as well as at the 6th World Nomad Games and events dedicated to the Independence Day of Kyrgyzstan.

He emphasized that the positions of Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan coincide on the most important issues of international and regional politics. Both countries, being mountainous, actively cooperate in the preservation of the snow leopard and promote the "mountain" agenda at the UN climate conference together with other allies.

In conclusion, the president noted that he invited Shahbaz Sharif to visit Kyrgyzstan on a state visit at a time convenient for him, expressing confidence that the agreements reached will strengthen friendly relations and elevate bilateral cooperation to a new level.
