The United States has temporarily suspended the implementation of the Diversity Visa (DV1) immigration lottery program, which provides foreigners with the opportunity to obtain a green card.

This decision was a result of an executive order from U.S. President Donald Trump, following the shooting incident at Brown University.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated that the suspect, Claudio Manuel Neves Valente, entered the country in 2017 through this program and subsequently obtained permanent resident status.
According to her, this individual should not have been allowed entry into the U.S. As a result, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) was ordered to immediately suspend the program.

"In accordance with President Trump's directive, I am instructing USCIS to immediately halt the DV1 program so that no American is harmed by this dangerous initiative," Noem emphasized.

Thus, issues of immigration security and the existing procedures for obtaining green cards have once again become the focus of heated political discussions in the U.S.
