- The Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has decided to eliminate import customs duties on waste and scrap of precious metals, effective until December 31, 2028.

Vaghn Kazaryan, Director of the Customs-Tariff and Non-Tariff Regulation Department of the EEC, noted that previous experience with such measures helped maintain the load of refining capacities in the EAEU and increased the consumption of waste and scrap of precious metals.

According to him, precious metals, possessing unique physicochemical properties, find wide application in various industries; however, sources of primary raw materials are limited.

Currently, the applicable rates of import customs duties under the EAEU's Common Customs Tariff for waste and scrap of precious metals are 15% of the customs value. The new decision will come into effect 30 days after its official publication.

According to previously adopted decisions by the EEC Board, the zero rate of import duties applicable to these goods has been in effect since June 2015 and will last until the end of December 2025.
