The Eurasian Intergovernmental Council has decided to abolish customs duties on the import of electric vehicles into Kyrgyzstan, which will come into effect in 2026. This was reported by the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).

According to this decision, the country will have the opportunity to import up to 15,000 units of electric vehicles duty-free, including both fully electric models and hybrids (according to code 8703 80 000 5 of the EAEU Customs Nomenclature). This benefit will apply exclusively to citizens permanently residing in Kyrgyzstan, and the transfer of rights to such vehicles to individuals with citizenship or permanent registration in Kazakhstan and Russia will be prohibited.

The EEC noted that similar conditions also apply to Armenia and Belarus, but there is a separate prohibition on the transfer of rights to residents of Belarus for hybrid vehicles.

Andrey Slepnev, Minister for Trade of the EEC, emphasized that this measure has already demonstrated its effectiveness in previous years. He noted that the exemption from duties will contribute to the growth of the electric vehicle market, the development of charging infrastructure, and the increase in the share of environmentally friendly transport in the Union, including in Kyrgyzstan.

The meeting of the Intergovernmental Council took place in Moscow under the leadership of the Prime Minister of Belarus, Alexander Turchin. In 2025, Belarus will preside over all EAEU bodies, including the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council.
