In Australia, pancakes recognized as a weapon of assault

In Australia, a woman has been sentenced for attacking a minister with a pancake. The incident occurred in the fall of 2023 when 56-year-old realtor Susanna Lee Milgate attacked Natasha Fyles, who was then serving as the Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, reports 1 News.

Milgate struck Fyles with a rolled-up pancake that was in a cardboard holder, resulting in bruises on the minister's face. The woman explained her actions as a protest against the strict quarantine measures that had been implemented earlier. She also mentioned that in January 2020, her husband suffered a stroke and needed surgery, but he was unable to obtain an exemption from vaccination.

Following this incident, Milgate was stripped of her real estate license. At the court hearing, she represented herself without a lawyer. The judges concluded that the pancake thrown at the minister was used as a weapon of assault, classifying the woman's actions as intentional assault.

As a result, the woman was sentenced to one year of probation. Later, Milgate informed media representatives of her intention to appeal the court's decision, as it could negatively affect her ability to regain her real estate license.
