On January 14, the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to the USA, Aibek Moldogaziev, met with John Pommerhime, who holds the position of Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Central and South Asia. During the meeting, current issues of Kyrgyz-American relations were discussed, including strengthening political dialogue and organizing joint events.
Particular attention was paid to the upcoming B5+1 business forum, which will take place in Bishkek on February 4-5, as well as the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries.
Additionally, the parties touched upon the new requirements introduced by the USA for B-1/B-2 visas and discussed the temporary suspension of immigration visa issuance for citizens of Kyrgyzstan.
Moldogaziev expressed concerns that these measures could negatively affect travel for citizens of both countries, which, in turn, would hinder the development of business and tourism contacts. He suggested seeking mutually acceptable solutions to this problem.
In response, John Pommerhime noted that these measures are part of American policy to combat illegal migration, but expressed willingness for further discussion and cooperation.
