The Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, held a meeting with a delegation headed by Gao Xiang, a member of the Central Committee of the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China and President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
According to the press service of the parliament, the participants of the meeting discussed various aspects of the development of political, economic, and cultural ties between the two countries, with an emphasis on inter-parliamentary cooperation.
Turgunbek uulu highlighted the significance of China as a long-standing neighbor and strategic partner of Kyrgyzstan.
“The historical ties between our peoples have been actively developing in recent years, as evidenced by high-level meetings. For example, last year our presidents held three meetings during which important issues were discussed that contributed to strengthening Kyrgyz-Chinese relations. As a result, the level of trade and economic relations reached record figures, and cultural and humanitarian interaction continues to develop actively,” he noted.
The Speaker also emphasized the importance of inter-parliamentary interaction, recalling his successful visit to China in 2024.
“Last year, a delegation of the National People's Congress of China, headed by Zhao Lezhi, visited Kyrgyzstan on an official visit. These meetings allowed us to elevate inter-parliamentary relations to a new level and facilitated the implementation of previously reached agreements between our countries, which gave a significant impetus to our strategic partnership,” he added.
The Speaker expressed Kyrgyzstan's interest in further developing cooperation with China.
Gao Xiang, for his part, conveyed greetings from Zhao Lezhi, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, and noted that the purpose of his visit is to support Kyrgyz-Chinese cooperation.
Additionally, he briefly spoke about the recent successes of the People's Republic of China and emphasized that China is committed to strengthening friendly relations with Kyrgyzstan.
“We actively exchange information about the centuries-old history of the Kyrgyz people and maintain close contacts with the 'Muras' Foundation of Kyrgyzstan. Our goal is to jointly explore our common history and maintain long-standing ties,” Gao Xiang added, also inviting the Speaker to familiarize himself with the work of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, which he heads.
