During its meeting, the Parliament of Tajikistan approved an agreement with China regarding the construction of nine border posts on the border with Afghanistan. The total cost of this project is approximately 60 million dollars, with funding provided by China on a grant basis. In return, Tajikistan exempts the project from tax and customs obligations.

In addition to the posts themselves, access roads will also be built as part of the agreement, along with water supply, sewage, and electricity systems. Tajik officials have not yet specified in which regions the new border facilities will be located. Earlier, China had already invested in the construction of border facilities on the Tajik-Afghan border.

Tajik political scientist Khursand Khurramov emphasizes that this way, Beijing is strengthening Tajikistan's southern borders to prevent potential threats emanating from Afghan territory.
