The goal of these events was to raise awareness among citizens and reduce the risks of infection.
A flash mob was held at the B. Rysbekov Center for General Medical Practice under the slogan "We will defeat HIV together — by caring for ourselves and others" ("Өзүңө жана башкаларга кам көрүү менен ВИЧти бирге жеңебиз").
At the initiative of the local mayor's office, preventive talks were organized for high school students, college and university students, as well as for employees in the fields of private dentistry, cosmetology, and the beauty industry. During these meetings, specialists from the city center for general medical practice and the state sanitary-epidemiological supervision department shared relevant information about the human immunodeficiency virus and sexually transmitted infections, as well as discussed issues related to the prevention of violence among youth.
Since 2010, 22 cases of HIV infection have been registered in Kara-Kul, of which 9 ended in death. Currently, 10 patients are undergoing active treatment.
There are 3 patients registered at the Kara-Kul city center for general medical practice, two of whom are spouses receiving treatment in Bishkek. Additionally, 10 patients are undergoing therapy at the regional center that specializes in the treatment of viral hepatitis and HIV, with their treatment remaining confidential.
Since June 2021, express testing for HIV has been implemented in the city, based on order No. 678 on the expansion of testing based on clinical and epidemiological indications.
In November of this year, a case of death of one patient was registered. This year, two new cases have been recorded. It has been established that most new infections are related to external migration and sexual transmission, with the ages of the patients varying.
