At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh on February 5, Health Minister Kanibek Dosmambetov reported on the preventive measures being taken in Kyrgyzstan in connection with the risks of the Nipah virus spread and the need to tighten sanitary controls at the borders.

He emphasized that a clear response algorithm to potential threats has been established in the country. Kyrgyzstan is actively cooperating with Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and other neighboring states, exchanging data and analyzing their measures to combat the virus.

Particular attention is being paid to students from India, who undergo medical examinations upon arrival, the minister noted.

In accordance with the directives from the country's leadership, additional funds have been allocated from the presidential fund to enhance sanitary control at airports. In particular, it is planned to equip all international airports with stationary thermal imagers, as Dosmambetov reported.

Currently, such equipment has only been installed at the "Manas" airport, but plans are in place for its installation at the airports in Osh, Tamchy, and Karakol in the future.

According to the minister, the situation remains under control, and there is no serious threat of the virus spreading in the country.

Dosmambetov added that the Nipah virus is primarily transmitted through close physical contact and does not spread as easily through airborne droplets as was observed with COVID-19.
