Kyrgyzstan is implementing digital innovations in maternal and reproductive health

A round table was held in Bishkek, which became a platform for discussing the results of the joint work of the Kyrgyz Alliance of Midwives and the project "Improving Maternal and Child Health in Central Asia," implemented with the support of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The main goal of the project is to improve the quality of medical services for pregnant women, mothers, and newborns at the primary healthcare level (PHC), as well as to develop leadership skills among midwives, who play a key role in the reproductive health system. During its implementation in the country, significant progress has been made: the professional community of midwives has been strengthened, a sustainable network for mentoring and developing management skills has been created, and principles of respectful treatment of women have been introduced. PHC specialists have undergone training where they received modern tools for providing respectful obstetric care and improving the quality of medical services.

The digitization of clinical practice has become an important part of this collaboration. In Kyrgyzstan, the mobile application "Safe Births" has been implemented, which provides medical workers with convenient tools for making clinical decisions during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.

"In the process of working with GIZ, our instructors underwent training in the programs 'Women's Leadership,' 'Respectful Care for Women,' as well as in the use of the mobile application 'Safe Births.' This significantly enriched the educational programs with modern approaches and improved the training process for medical personnel," noted the Vice-Rector for Educational and Medical Work of KGMI and PK Venera Adylbaeva.

"This year, we not only trained — we formed a community. Thanks to cooperation with GIZ, we managed to strengthen the leadership of midwives, promote ideas of respectful treatment of women, and implement innovative tools in our practice. True transformation begins within the team, and this is just the beginning of our journey," added the head of the Kyrgyz Alliance of Midwives Asel Orozalieva.
