The Nipah virus, which has been reported in India, does not pose a threat to Kyrgyzstan; however, security measures at the border have been tightened. Deputy Minister of Health Ryspek Sydygaliev announced this during a parliamentary session.

On the agenda of the parliament was also a draft law concerning the ratification of an Agreement with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development related to the "Phase 1" project under the "One Health" Program aimed at preventing pandemics and enhancing food security in Central Asia.

Deputy Gulnara Akimbaeva (District No. 24) reminded about the regulations adopted in 2019 and 2025 regarding the handling of medical waste. She expressed doubt about the necessity of new changes if past measures have not yielded results.

In response, the deputy minister stated that training for staff is required to improve the situation, and specialized centers have been established to manage medical waste.

Akimbaeva noted that the rules from 2025 also need to be reviewed and asked about the mechanisms for monitoring the proper use of allocated grant funds.

Sydygaliev added that the medical field is constantly evolving: new diseases emerge, new medications are developed, and treatment protocols are updated.

“We must be prepared for changes and potential pandemics. At the moment, the Nipah virus does not pose a threat to our state, but we have strengthened control at sanitary checkpoints,” he emphasized.

Akimbaeva supported the idea of enhancing control.

Deputy Aisarakan Abdibaeva (District No. 15) also asked what measures the Ministry of Health is taking to prevent the spread of the Nipah virus. The deputy minister reported that checks are being conducted at airports and checkpoints using thermal imaging to detect symptoms of illness, and training for medical personnel is being carried out.
