In an official statement from the president, it is reported that Netanyahu's request has been sent to the Ministry of Justice, where the pardons department will gather opinions from all interested agencies. After analyzing all conclusions, the president will "objectively and responsibly consider this appeal."
In his video address posted on social media, Netanyahu noted that the judicial process against him has been ongoing for "almost six years," while in fact, nothing has changed since the investigation began. The Prime Minister emphasizes that Israel is facing serious challenges, and unity of the nation is required to address these issues; otherwise, his legal proceedings only deepen the divide in society. "I am convinced that an immediate cessation of the process can significantly reduce tension and contribute to the broad reconciliation that our country so desperately needs," he added.
Netanyahu also reminded that he was elected in free elections and received the trust of citizens to fulfill his duties, including addressing the historic challenges facing Israel. "Based on the above, my lawyers have submitted a request for a pardon to the president. I hope that those who care about the welfare of the country will support this step," the Prime Minister concluded.
According to The Times of Israel, in his address, Netanyahu does not admit guilt and does not apologize for the violations, but speaks of a "broad public and ethical responsibility" for the tension that has arisen. The letter, according to the publication, is dated November 27 but was received by the president's office only on November 30.
Netanyahu is accused of receiving bribes, fraud, and abuse of trust in connection with a corruption case. The legal proceedings began in 2020, but the process is still far from completion. Among the accusations are receiving cigars and champagne from a Hollywood producer in exchange for assistance in personal matters, as well as facilitating certain media outlets for more favorable coverage of his activities.
In October 2025, Donald Trump, while in Israel and speaking in the Knesset, called for Netanyahu's pardon. Later, he sent an official letter with this request to the office of the President of Israel. The letter emphasized that Netanyahu is an outstanding wartime Prime Minister and is leading the country towards peace.
