An unarmed man showed courage and saved many lives
More than 43,000 citizens from around the globe have donated to Ahmed al-Ahmed, a Syrian native who managed to disarm a criminal during a shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney.
On the GoFundMe platform, over 2.5 million Australian dollars have been raised. Blogger Zachary Deriniowski (MDMotivator) visited Ahmed, and his humble question in the video: “Did I really deserve this?” went viral.
“Come together and leave all the bad behind,” Ahmed urged people.
Ahmed al-Ahmed, the owner of a fruit shop who took the weapon from one of the attackers during the mass shooting, is currently recovering in the hospital after surgery. He has gunshot wounds to his shoulder and arm, his family reported.
The 43-year-old man was captured on social media video as he initially hid behind parked cars and then unexpectedly attacked the shooter, snatched the weapon from him, and brought him down to the ground. The Australian police did not provide information on what type of weapon the two attackers used, as reported by the BBC.
Earlier, police reported that the attack on participants celebrating the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah in the park near the popular Bondi Beach was carried out by a 50-year-old man and his 24-year-old son. As a result of the attack, 15 people were injured; the older attacker was killed on the spot, while his son is in critical condition in the hospital. This attack became the deadliest mass shooting in Australia in nearly three decades.
