Khaleda Zia, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and leader of the "Bangladesh Nationalist Party," has passed away at the age of 80. This was reported by the Dhaka Tribune, citing an official statement from the party on social media, as conveyed by RIA Novosti.

In November of last year, she was hospitalized with a chest infection that affected her heart and lungs. In December, doctors assessed her condition as extremely critical, and she was placed on a ventilator.

According to the publication, "Khaleda Zia... passed away at 6 AM on Tuesday."

Khaleda Zia made history by becoming the first woman to serve as Prime Minister of Bangladesh in 1991. She held this position twice: from 1991 to 1996 and then from 2001 to 2006.

The "Bangladesh Nationalist Party" has strengthened its position in the country's politics again after mass student protests in August of last year led to the fall of the "Awami League" government led by Sheikh Hasina.
