The strikes carried out by Russian forces targeted facilities related to drone production and energy infrastructure, which are of immense importance for the functioning of the Ukrainian defense industry. The operation involved, among other things, the medium-range missile systems "Oreshnik." The Ministry of Defense emphasized that such "terrorist actions" from Kyiv would not go unanswered and noted that all designated targets were achieved.
At the same time, on January 9, Ukrainian authorities reported powerful combined strikes on the Lviv and Kyiv regions. Media indicated that the strikes hit the Bilche-Volytsko-Uherske underground gas storage facility. Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi confirmed damage to a critically important infrastructure facility, while Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported missile strikes on three major thermal power plants, leading to a blackout in the city.
The Air Command "West" of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also reported that a ballistic missile was launched at infrastructure facilities in Lviv, traveling at a speed of 13,000 km/h.
Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reported that Ukraine attempted to attack Putin's residence with drones on the night of December 29, noting that 91 drones were used in this attack, all of which were shot down.
