In the images obtained from coronagraphs, it can be seen how the substance explodes and scatters in different directions. The increase in radiation began around midnight Moscow time, reaching an M3.3 level by half past three in the morning.
According to scientists, this is the first M-class flare of 2026, and so far it is the most powerful solar event recorded this year.
Astronomers noted that the radiation occurring on the far side of the Sun usually does not reach Earth; however, this time the source of the flare was directly over the horizon, allowing it to be detected. Although scientists cannot accurately measure the power of the event, they suggest that it significantly exceeds the reported data.
The previous major flare on the hidden side of the Sun was recorded on January 8. At that time, astronomers reported that just two weeks ago, when this side was facing Earth, only a few medium-sized active regions were observed there.
After the second flare, specialists noted that there is a large active center on the far side of the Sun that caused two bursts, presumably related to the higher X-class. Astronomers added that within the next two days, this area will become visible from Earth, allowing for a more detailed study.
