This is already the second attempt by the Bank of Russia to introduce a new thousand-ruble banknote. In 2023, a banknote was issued featuring the Museum of the History of the Statehood of the Tatar People, located in the building of the former Palace Church. However, during the Soviet era, the cross was removed from this church.
The design of the banknote faced criticism from representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church, who stated that it would be appropriate to depict a cross in the image of the church.
