There is a possibility that Greenland may become a US state
Randy Fine, a Republican from Florida and a member of the US House of Representatives, has initiated a bill that implies the annexation of Greenland by the United States. This information is reported by TASS, citing a statement published on his official website.
If the bill is passed, the President of the United States will be granted the authority "to take necessary steps, including negotiating with the Kingdom of Denmark, with the aim of annexing Greenland or joining it to the US in another way." Thus, Greenland could be recognized as a state of the United States.
According to Fine, this legislative initiative is aimed at "protecting the national interests of the US in the Arctic region and countering the increasing threats from China and Russia."
It is worth noting that President Donald Trump had previously expressed the need to annex Greenland to the US. During his first presidential term, he proposed purchasing the island, and in March 2025, he expressed confidence in the possibility of annexation, threatening Denmark with trade tariffs in case of refusal. However, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen categorically rejects these claims, emphasizing that Greenland is part of the kingdom.
Greenland functions as an autonomous territory within Denmark. In 1951, a Treaty for the Protection of Greenland was signed between Washington and Copenhagen, which, in addition to NATO obligations, provides for the protection of the island from potential external threats.
