The reasons for which he is forced to wear sunglasses were not detailed.
The day before, on January 15, Macron had already appeared in public with a red eye. During his speech at the strategic air base in Istres, he apologized for his "not very pleasant appearance" and joked that the redness could be perceived "as a reference to a tiger's eye."
At the Élysée Palace, it was explained that the redness was caused by a rupture of a small blood vessel.
