According to Euronews, the Trump administration plans to impose an additional 10% tariff on eight European countries starting February 1. In response to these actions, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated the need for a unified and coordinated EU approach to protect Europe's sovereignty.

The publication also reminds that last summer, an agreement was signed between the EU and the US, under which tariffs on goods from Europe were tripled to 15%, while tariffs on American industrial goods were reduced to zero. Brussels emphasized that such concessions were made to ensure US participation in resolving the Ukrainian issue and maintaining global stability.

Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, expressed his readiness to coordinate the actions of EU leaders in response to current threats.

Although trade issues fall under the jurisdiction of the European Commission, the White House may choose specific EU countries and particular goods for tariff imposition, raising additional concerns.

This conflict has also reignited discussions on the coercion counteraction mechanism known as the trade "bazooka." This tool, adopted in 2023, allows the EU to restrict the participation of third countries in public procurement, the issuance of trade licenses, and access to the single European market.

At the same time, protests are taking place in Copenhagen against the US's intentions to purchase Greenland. Representatives of the US Congress, who oppose Trump's initiative, have also arrived in the Danish capital.
