
During the meeting, measures to improve labor migration and streamline migration processes were also discussed, as reported by the Russian diplomatic mission.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan clarified that the main topic of conversation was ensuring the rights and legitimate interests of citizens working in Russia. The Uzbek side emphasized the need to prevent any forms of violation of the rights and human dignity of Uzbek citizens, both legal workers and those who may have violated migration legislation, during migration checks.
Participating in the discussions were consuls general from Russian regions, as well as employees from the consular department and law enforcement agencies from the Russian side.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan noted that the meeting confirmed the parties' commitment to establishing a pragmatic and respectful dialogue aimed at streamlining migration processes and creating comfortable conditions for the legal labor activities of Uzbek citizens in Russia.
The parties also agreed on the necessity of regular consultations to improve interaction and strengthen cooperation.
Last week, migration raids were conducted in St. Petersburg, resulting in the detention of 95 foreigners from the distribution center of X5 Group and 280 individuals from "Perekrestok" supermarkets, who were taken to police stations.
Last summer, Uzbekistan expressed concern regarding reports of unauthorized checks and the rough treatment of its citizens in Russia, calling for adherence to international law and human rights.
Uzbekistan also sent a note to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia requesting clarification on the situation related to complaints about the use of physical force by OMON officers during checks in Moscow.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that Moscow is carefully studying the information contained in the note and emphasized that the bilateral relations between Russia and Uzbekistan are based on strong alliance and strategic partnership.
Earlier, in May, the Russian ambassador was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, where he was presented with reports of cases of abuse against labor migrants.
