The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baghaei, noted that measures that the Islamic Republic of Iran will take in response to the "illegal, unfounded, and extremely erroneous step by the EU" will be determined in the coming days.
He also added that various action options have been developed and sent to the relevant authorities. The summoning of diplomats began on Sunday and is ongoing at the moment.
On January 29, Josep Borrell, the head of EU diplomacy, announced that the foreign ministers of EU countries had reached an agreement to include the IRGC in the list of terrorist organizations. This decision was prompted by the IRGC's involvement in suppressing mass protests in Iran that began in late December. In response, the Iranian parliament also recognized the armed forces of EU countries as terrorist groups.
According to Iranian authorities, the protests resulted in the deaths of 3,100 people; however, Time magazine, citing sources from the Ministry of Health, reported 30,000 fatalities.
