According to investigators, preparations for the coup began in 2012, and the organizers planned to use the presidential elections of 2013 as a starting point for protest actions.
Approximately $550,000 was allocated for organizing demonstrations in the regions, a significant portion of which was reportedly provided by Mehdiyev and Abbasov themselves.
According to information from the State Security Service, technical instructions for attracting participants to the protests and a secret letter addressed to a foreign state requesting support for "destructive activities" under the guise of democratic reforms were presented as evidence.
