During a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Beijing, Xi Jinping emphasized the necessity of equal participation of all parties in negotiations concerning the end of the war in Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Chairman of the People's Republic of China also noted that the international situation has been changing since the end of World War II, and China maintains a "principled" position regarding the Ukrainian conflict.

Xi Jinping believes that a consistent dialogue and negotiations are essential for resolving the conflict.

He added: "It is extremely important to ensure equal participation of all parties, take into account their legitimate interests, and strengthen the commitment to peace, which will create a reliable foundation for security and peace."

As reported by RBC-Ukraine, this statement by Xi Jinping also underscores the need to involve Europe in the peace process.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, for his part, urged Xi Jinping to use China's influence over Russia to facilitate the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.

He noted: "We know that signals from Beijing are taken very seriously in Moscow, both in words and actions."

Earlier, the U.S. Ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, claimed that China could influence the end of the war "in an instant" by making a call to Moscow.

However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that China has not yet shown interest in stopping Russian aggression against Ukraine.
