Dushanbe announced that China will build 9 border facilities on the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border

The discussion of this project took place at a parliamentary meeting on March 4, where it was approved. The main goal of the construction is to improve the material and technical base of the Border Troops of Tajikistan.

Murodali Rajabzoda, the first deputy chairman of the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan (SCNS), noted at the meeting that the implementation of the project will be carried out in three phases, and exchange letters for the second phase have already been signed.

According to these letters, the total construction area will be 17,109 square meters, and the costs for the project implementation will reach approximately 569 million somoni (424 million 830 thousand Chinese yuan), with funding provided by China on a grant basis.

Rajabzoda added that the Tajik side is responsible for exemption from taxes and customs duties, as well as other mandatory payments.

At this time, it is not specified in which specific areas these border facilities will be located and what kind they will be.

In addition, Beijing will provide all necessary infrastructure.

A member of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Committee on Law Enforcement, Defense, and Security, Bakhriddin Ziyoi, noted that the Chinese side will also conduct research and design, as well as provide the necessary equipment and construction materials.

Chinese engineers will be sent to Tajikistan to install and configure the equipment, as well as furnish the facilities with office and residential furniture and computers.

Furthermore, access roads, water supply and drainage systems, power supply lines, and other necessary infrastructure will be constructed as part of the project.

It is expected that funding for the project from China will begin after all internal procedures in the country are completed.

Ziyoi also reported that the exchange letters were approved by the government of Tajikistan in November 2025 and coordinated with the parliament and other ministries.

He added that these documents underwent anti-corruption expertise, and no corruption risks were identified.

According to the SCNS, in 2017-2018, as part of the first phase of this China-funded project, 12 border facilities were built in the border areas of Tajikistan with Afghanistan.
