Trump expressed the opinion that China should play an active role in restoring shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, as this route is important for importing oil into the country. He added that waiting for a response from Beijing until the summit would be too long.
The planned meeting between the two leaders was set to take place in two weeks in Beijing and could have marked Trump's first visit to China in nine years. Preparations for the summit were ongoing after U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's negotiations with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng in Paris.

Chinese media, including the nationalist publication Global Times, reacted negatively to Trump's words, pointing out that U.S. calls to share responsibility are inappropriate, as the conflict was initiated by Washington.

Some experts in China also express doubts about the possibility of Beijing's involvement in resolving the conflict. Yu Xinbo, director of the Center for American Studies at Fudan University, told Bloomberg that China's intervention in the conflict with Iran would be impractical.

Analysts note that the possible postponement of Trump's visit may be related to concerns about the reaction to his trip to China amid rising military tensions in the region.

The summit was planned after the meeting between Trump and Xi in South Korea last October, when the parties agreed on a trade truce and began work on a broader mutual trade agreement.

Experts believe that if the visit is only postponed and not canceled, it may give the Chinese side an opportunity to avoid public discussion of the Iranian conflict.
