In Jammu and Kashmir, women are becoming increasingly active participants in the economy and public life, and their percentage in the workforce has exceeded the national average in India. This statement was made by Darakshan Hassan Bhat, a representative of one of the region's NGOs, at the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council, as reported by Kashmir Breaking News.

She noted that new opportunities for enhancing women's rights are being created in the union territory due to government initiatives and active engagement of local communities.

Bhat emphasized: "The future of Jammu and Kashmir is bright, confident, and undoubtedly a feminine future," highlighting the significance of women's roles in the region's development.

Increasing Women's Participation in the Labor Market

The community representative provided a number of statistical data confirming positive changes. The level of women's participation in the workforce has reached 34.1%, which is higher than the national average. This indicates a shift in social norms and an increase in women's economic independence.

She also mentioned the results of government employment programs: over the past five years, more than half a million women have found paid employment thanks to major government initiatives.

Targeted employment programs provide women with the opportunity for financial independence and strengthen their family status.

Support and Safety for Women

According to Bhat, there is also a growth in institutional support. For example, the "Shakti Mission" program aims to ensure safety and opportunities for women.

Within this program, thousands of women have gained access to vocational training, legal assistance, financial literacy, and business opportunities.

Moreover, assistance mechanisms have been improved, including "one-stop centers," special hotlines, emergency services, and police assistance points for women.

Programs for the social and economic empowerment of women have already reached over 1.16 million people.

Microloans and Self-Organization

Bhat also noted the increase in women's participation in self-help groups. She reported that over 700,000 women have been able to obtain microloans and access markets for their products, contributing to the development of the local economy.

Social Changes

Speaking about social changes, Bhat emphasized the improvement of the gender ratio in the region. This has been made possible through programs such as "Save the Daughter - Educate the Daughter."

She added that after amending one of the legislative acts, important laws for the protection of women, including the Domestic Violence Protection Act and the Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace Act, have been fully implemented in Jammu and Kashmir.

Regional Development Dynamics

Despite ongoing security challenges related to cross-border terrorism, the region continues to develop, Bhat noted.

She stated: "Despite the constant threats from cross-border terrorism, the integrated model of empowerment being implemented by India remains viable."

According to the activist, the increase in women's participation in education, employment, and governance is shaping a new, more optimistic future for Jammu and Kashmir.
