
In his statement, Abdirov noted: “The referendum ... should be considered valid. The new Constitution presented at the republican referendum should be considered adopted.”
According to the Central Election Commission, the total number of registered voters at the time of voting was 12,482,613 people. 9,127,192 people voted. Of these, 146,558 ballots were declared invalid, and 127,868 forms were not counted.
The new edition of the Constitution will come into force in Kazakhstan on July 1. Key changes to the fundamental law include the introduction of the position of vice president, the creation of a unicameral parliament consisting of 145 deputies elected on a party basis, as well as the establishment of the People's Council — a new supreme advisory body with the right of legislative initiative.
