In his official statement, Larijani's office noted: “I, the servant of God, have reunited with God.”
Iran's President Masoud Pazeshkian promised to avenge the loss, stating that “a brutal revenge awaits those who have stained their hands with the blood of the oppressed and steadfast martyrs of the holy land of Iran.”
According to information from the Iranian agency Tasnim, one of Larijani's sons and his bodyguard also died as a result of the tragedy. The causes of his death have not yet been disclosed.
Earlier, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz claimed that Larijani was killed during an Israeli attack on Tehran.
At the same time, the Israel Defense Forces confirmed that in another strike, the commander of the "Basij" forces, Gholamreza Soleimani, was killed, as officially stated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
