During the meeting on March 17, Prime Minister Zandanshatar Gombojav discussed further development of relations between the two countries with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Michael George DeSombre.

The head of the Mongolian government emphasized the importance of strengthening the strategic partnership with the United States and expressed Mongolia's readiness to enhance bilateral ties, including cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and mining, as well as the development of the private sector and attracting foreign investments.

According to MiddleAsianNews, Michael DeSombre thanked for the opportunity to meet and noted that the U.S. highly values the strategic partnership with Mongolia. He also expressed appreciation for Mongolia's participation in the "Peace Council" initiative proposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump, which underscores Mongolia's commitment to international peace and stability. DeSombre assured that the U.S. will continue to actively develop bilateral relations and cooperation in all areas.

During the meeting, Zandanshatar and DeSombre noted the successful completion of the U.S. "Millennium Challenges" program, which includes funding of approximately $460 million for water resources and will conclude on March 30, 2026. One of its main achievements is the launch of a wastewater treatment plant in Ulaanbaatar.

In addition, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State also visited the largest Buddhist monastery Gandantegchinlen, where he noted: "I was amazed at how much I learned about Buddhism and Mongolia's cultural heritage. The United States will continue to support freedom of religion both in Mongolia and in other countries around the world."

He added: "At the 17th bilateral consultation between the U.S. and Mongolia, we reaffirmed our intentions to strengthen peace, security, and economic growth. We also discussed the opening of the MCC treatment facilities and expressed readiness to deepen cooperation in the fields of energy, digital technologies, and people-to-people exchanges."
