The Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs met with the Deputy Executive Secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification

On March 19, 2026, a meeting took place between the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mönkhtushig Lkhanaajav, and Andrea Mesa Murillo, who holds the position of Deputy Executive Secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification.

During the discussion, the participants exchanged views on preparations for the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP17) and noted the need to enhance cooperation for the successful organization of this event.

Andrea Mesa Murillo also expressed confidence that the appointment of Battsereg Batmunkh, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, as the President-Designate of the Conference of the Parties (UNCCD COP17 President-Designate) will have a significant impact on the successful conduct of the event.

The conference, scheduled to take place from August 17 to 28 in Ulaanbaatar under the slogan "Restore Nature, Revive Hope," will serve as an important platform for international cooperation and high-level discussions aimed at addressing issues related to land degradation, desertification, and drought.
