A significant zinc processing plant is nearing its opening in the Sukhbaatar aimag.
This zinc concentrator, the second largest in the region, will be capable of processing up to 300,000 tons of ore annually, with production of up to 30,000 tons for export.
As part of a seven-year project, a total of 138,000 tons of zinc is planned to be processed, which will bring around ₮250 million to the budgets of local and state authorities in the form of taxes and fees.
The plant, located in the Sukhbaatar soum, is being constructed by Polymetal Resource, with financing fully sourced from internal resources. Currently, the construction of the Salhit-Bor-Tolgoi zinc enrichment plant is 85 percent complete, and its full opening is expected in June 2026.
The company's director, Munkhbat, reported that work continues on the removal of overburden, ore extraction, and preparatory mining operations. The project is expected to create 341 jobs for its entire duration. Currently, more than 20 local residents are employed, and the process of recruiting and testing new candidates is ongoing.
